Variety the Children's Charity Tasmania raises the money needed to provide services, medical help and equipment to improve the quality of life of special children in Tasmania.
In 1990 a regional branch of the Variety Club of Tasmania was established in Tasmania.
In 1998 at the International Convention in Toronto Variety was given Tent Status and became known as Tent 78.
Because Variety was established by a group of show business people circus terminology was used in the name – hence a Tent for each region, the Chairman of the Board is known as the Chief Barker and members of the Board are known as Barkers.
In 2003 at the International Convention in Chicago a decision was made to change our name world-wide and in October 2003 we became Variety the Children’s Charity Tent 78 – Tasmania Inc.
Since 1990 Variety the Children's Charity Tasmania has raised well over $2 million for Tasmania's children in need.
